The History of Our School
When Kōwhai Special School & Resource Centre opened its doors in November 1975, the first classrooms were situated in the present Base School building and as the school roll grew, there was the need for Satellite Classes at Raureka School, Frimley Primary School and Heretaunga Intermediate School.
Hastings Central School classrooms replaced the Frimley School Satellite and classrooms were developed at Flaxmere College catering for our senior students. In 2015 Kōwhai School celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Kōwhai Special School has a staff of around 55, including Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Therapists and Support Staff.
