Situated in the expansive grounds of Te Kura o Kimi Ora you will find Kōwhai’s newest satellite. This purpose-built two-classroom satellite opened in 2021 for ākonga aged 5-12 years. Classes follow the mainstream school timetable for break times, and have our own generously sized, custom-designed playground. During the school year, there are also opportunities for our ākonga to integrate with their mainstream peers for some activities at Te Kura o Kimi Ora.
The two classes at Kimi Ora have programmes that reflect the needs of the students, focusing on individual curriculum-based academic, therapy and key competency goals. The development of communication and social skills are woven through our daily programme. Opportunities for confidence building and promoting independence through activities such as dressing for swimming, preparation of kai, climbing on the playground structures and bike riding on the school cycle track are encouraged.
Like the other junior areas of our kura, we know the transition to school can be big, not only for your little person, but for your whānau. We will guide you through this process as we aim to provide you with all the information you need for a successful transition into Kōwhai. Our staff provide a warm, nurturing environment for our tamariki. We welcome whānau support and input as we work together to get the most from your child’s school journey.
Kimi is a positive and fun place to be – come and see for yourself!
