Nestled within the treelined grounds of Raureka Primary School in Hastings, the Raureka Satellite Class offers a truly unique and enriching learning environment. Our students enjoy full access to the school’s fantastic facilities, including extensive playing fields, all-weather courts, and an outdoor swimming pool complex.
Integration is key to our success. Our students are active participants in mainstream activities, often joining Raureka Primary for lunch and morning tea breaks. Once a week, some of our students even attend a class lesson in the mainstream. This seamless connection fosters excellent relationships, with Raureka students regularly visiting to interact and learn alongside our students. These invaluable interactions bring curiosity, joy, and a deep sense of acceptance that enriches everyone’s experience.
Our dedicated team, comprising three teachers and a minimum of two teacher aides in each class, works tirelessly to ensure every student’s individual needs are met, every single day. We believe in tailored education, crafting individualised programs for each student. These programs are based on identified needs through the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process and align with the New Zealand Curriculum, ensuring we meet our students at their unique academic levels.
Our programs embrace a holistic approach, incorporating a diverse range of activities that support all aspects of student development, from sensory programs to emergent English and Math. Beyond core learning activities, our students enjoy weekly swimming sessions, trips to the local gym, and Riding for the Disabled. Both classes actively promote confidence-building and independence through all our activities. Crucially, language development and communication are woven into every aspect of our daily learning.
Parents are vital partners in everything we do. We maintain an open-door policy, encouraging families to have as much input into their child’s education as they desire. We also collaborate closely with the Kōwhai therapy team, who provide expert advice, hands-on program development, and regular assessment, further enhancing the support we offer our students.
We invite you to come and visit us.
