Heretaunga Intermediate (Te Māhuri)

There are two satellite classrooms for Kōwhai Specialist School hosted at Heretaunga Intermediate.

The Heretaunga satellite is divided into two classes - with six to ten students in each. We follow the New Zealand Curriculum meeting our students' needs at their individual academic levels.

Being in a satellite, we are very fortunate as we are able to participate in our Host School Heretaunga Intermediate’s activities. We are able to take advantage of the School’s Specialist Teachers by attending Food Technology, Material Technology, Music, Art, and Sports Specialists from Sport Hawke's Bay for activities such as hockey. We also participate in Heretaunga Intermediates’ Outdoor Education Programmes such as camps to Camp Wakarara, Optimist Yachting, School Swimming Sports, School Cross Country, School Athletics and weekly School Sports sessions.

We are in a syndicate with other mainstream classes and participate in many activities together such as; visits to the Marae, school cultural activities, music (including individual tuition) and School Productions. Many of our students are in the school Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups and participate in their respective festivals.

Heretaunga has a respectful and inclusive culture and we are included in weekly assemblies with the recognition of many of our students’ successes such as sporting activities outside of school as well as success at school. We also participate in the school’s 'Strong and Smart' awards system and many of our students have earned bronze and silver recognition. It is a really great place to be!
